Panzhihua

Panzhihua (Chinese攀枝花 市, pinyin Panzhihua shì ) is a prefecture-level city in the extreme southwest of southwest China's Sichuan Province. Panzhihua is bordered to the north and east by the Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture of Yi people in Sichuan, west and south to the city of Lijiang and the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous County, both in Yunnan.

Basic Information

  • Geographical Location: 26 ° 05 ' to 27 ° 21' N.Br. and 101 ° 08 ' to 102 ° 15' ö.L.;
  • Area: 7440 km ²;
  • Population: 1.0798 million ( end of 2005).

Administrative Divisions

At county level, Panzhihua is composed of three municipalities and two counties. These are:

  • Municipality Dong (东区'East' ), 167 km ², 319,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
  • Municipality Xi (西区'West' ), 123.955 km ², 170,000 inhabitants;
  • City District Renhe (仁 和 区), 1727.07 km ², 199,200 inhabitants;
  • Miyi County (米易县), 2153 km ², 207,100 inhabitants, capital: greater community Panlian (攀 莲 镇);
  • Yanbian county (盐边县), 3269.453 km ², 194,800 inhabitants, capital: greater community Tongzilin (桐子 林镇).

History

In 1965 the special area Panzhihua (攀枝花 特区, Panzhihua tequ ) in the city Dukou (渡口 市) was converted, which reported directly to the provincial government. In 1978, the circles Miyi and Yanbian, who had heard up to that point to the governmental district Xichang, Dukou was assumed. In 1987 the city was renamed Dukou in Panzhihua. In the years 1965, 1974 and 1978 individual communities from Lijiang and Chuxiong were repeatedly dissolved in Yunnan and today Panzhihua assumed. The parts Panzhihuas that were formerly Yunnan, are today in the municipality Renhe. When the Republic of China on January 1, 1939 founded the province Xikang, today's circuits Miyi and Yanbian were part of this province. In October 1955 Xikang was dissolved by the Government of the People's Republic of back and integrated into Sichuan.
