Papyrus 122

(Referred to Gregory- Aland Sigel 122) 122 Papyrus is an early copy of the Greek New Testament. These are fragments of a papyrus manuscript of the Gospel of John.

Description

To date, only two fragments of a leaf have survived. The remaining text of John includes parts of the verses from 21.11 to 14 and 22-24. Using palaeography, it was dated to the 4th or 5th century. The manuscript is written very irregular.

The text contains nouns sacra. The name Ιησους (Jesus) is abbreviated as ΙΗΣ ( Most of the manuscripts use the abbreviation ΙΣ ). The number " one hundred fifty-three " is abbreviated written as ΡΝΓ.

The Greek text probably representative of the Alexandrian text-type.

Text

In John 21:14 the word Ιησους (Jesus) is omitted, as in the Codex Washingtonianus, but the rest of the manuscript contains the word, mostly in connection with an article ( ο Ιησους ).

The missing letters are displayed in red.

Storage

The manuscript is currently in the rooms of Papyrology of the Sackler Library in Oxford under the number P. Oxy. 4806 kept.
