Peillonnex

Peillonnex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Peillonnex is located on 690 m above sea level. M., about 20 km east-southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village extends Faucigny, on a gently sloping to the northeast slope overlooking the valley basin of the landscape Sallaz, west of the Môle in the Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​6.40 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Faucigny. The northern municipal boundary runs along the Foron, a left side of the creek Menoge, and the general Talniederung of Sallaz. In the north also includes a part of the forest area Bois de Chaubon to Peillonnex. From the valley floor, the municipality's area extends southward to the wide ridge of Peillonnex, on the 753 m above sea level. M. is reached the highest point of the municipality.

To Peillonnex include various hamlet settlements, including Les Moulins (610 m above sea level. M. ), Senoche ( 595 m above sea level. M. ) and Chez Tinjoux (625 m above sea level. M. ), all located in the valley basin of the Sallaz. Neighboring communities of Peillonnex are Viuz -en- Sallaz and Ville -en- Sallaz in the north, La Tour in the East, Saint -Jean -de- Tholome and Faucigny in the south and Contamine -sur -Arve and Marcellaz in the West.

History

The territory of Peillonnex was inhabited in prehistoric times and during the Roman period. In the 12th century the priory was founded, which until 1792 had stock. Within the conquest campaign of the Berne in Savoy in 1536, the town was devastated.

Attractions

A major attraction is the former priory church Notre Dame de l' Assomption is, which was built in the 12th century in late Romanesque style. The church with rich interiors has a Baroque choir; the choir stalls dating from the 15th century. The convent buildings date mainly from the 17th century. In Senoche there is a chapel. Of the secular buildings the Château Vuarchex should be mentioned from the 16th century.

Population

With 1433 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Peillonnex one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area. Outside of the old village created numerous houses.

Economy and infrastructure

Peillonnex was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Geneva - Annemasse, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is well developed yet. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about 7 km. Road connections are made with Bonneville, Viuz -en- Sallaz and other neighboring communities.
