Pennigsehl

Pennigsehl is a municipality in the district of Nienburg / Weser in Lower Saxony. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Liebenau, which has its administrative headquarters in the spots Liebenau.

Pennigsehl lies south of the national road 214 between Nienburg / Weser and Sulingen.

History

Prehistoric finds and burial mounds from the Bronze Age suggest a settlement about 1800-700 BC. Hesterberg was already mentioned in 1039 in a document. Pennigsehl is mentioned for the first time in a Lehnsregister of the Counts of Hoya, which was written around 1300. The first written record comes from the year 1358 from a sales contract between the noblemen of Mandelsloh and the Counts of Hoya. The Erbregister of 1583, that was after the extinction of Hoyaer Count created by their heirs, the Dukes of Brunswick- Lüneburg called 14 yards. During the Thirty Years War, several farms were destroyed and then partially farmed again. Since 1694 there is a school in Pennigsehl. Hesterberg has its own school since 1911. On 11 April 1945 Pennigsehl was occupied by an English tank unit. The Samtgemeinde Liebenau was formed in 1968, who is also the former independent municipalities Pennigsehl and Hesterberg joined. Since 1992 there is partnership with the community Plötzkau in Saxony -Anhalt.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring community Hesterberg was incorporated.

The coat of arms of the municipality Pennigsehl contains in the lower part of the red mountain heath a golden scythe, in the upper gold-colored part a black sheep barn.
