The Nuevo Sol is the currency of Peru since 1991. A Sol is divided into 100 Céntimos. The ISO code is PEN.

The Nuevo Sol was introduced on 1 July 1991 to replace the hyperinflationary Inti. He was changed = 1,000,000 Inti at the rate of 1 nuevo sol. On 1 October of the same year were coins, banknotes introduced on 13 November. Compared to the old Inti notes the new certificates were provided with several safety features such as special paper, watermarks, and metallic thread.

The new banknotes are equipped with safety features. History

In Peru, was elected in 1863 the name Sol in the meaning " sun " ( symbol of the country since the Inca period ) as a monetary unit in the decimal system: 1 Sol ( dinero = 10 ) = 100 centavos and 10 Soles = 1 Libra.
