Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv Oblast
Perwomajsk (Ukrainian Первомайськ; Russian Первомайск / Pervomaisk ) is a city situated on the Southern Bug in the Mykolaiv Oblast in Ukraine with 64 410 inhabitants ( 2013). It is an independent city and the administrative seat of Rajon Perwomajsk, but not itself a part of him.
History
The city was on May 1, 1919 the merger of the three place Holta ( Голта ) Bohopil ( Богопіль ) and Olwiopol ( Ольвіополь ), dating back their traces of settlement to the late 17th century, was founded.
During the Cold War was located near the city a base with up to ten RT -23 nuclear missiles. The silos were dismantled in the 1990s for the purpose of disarmament. The former, formerly disguised as a weather station base is open for tourists.
