Peter Velits

Peter Velits (born 21 February 1985 in Bratislava) is a Slovak cyclist. The first big success of his career, he scored the victory in the streets - Cycling World Championships 2007 in Stuttgart in the class U 23

Peter Velits began his career in 2004 at the Dukla Trencin Merida cycling team. In 2005 he moved to the South African Continental team Konica Minolta. In his second season where he won a stage at the Giro del Capo and so decided the overall rating for themselves. Two months later Velits won the Slovakian one-day races GP Kooperativa. In the Belgian GP Stad Zottegem he finished fourth. 2007 Peter went along with his twin brother Martin Velits in the German Professional Continental Team Wiesenhof - Felt. From 2008 to 2009, he started for the ProTeam Milram. For the 2010 season, he moved along with his brother Martin to Team HTC - Columbia and after its closure in 2012, the Omega Pharma- Quick Step.

His first stage victory in a major tour of the country, he scored on the 17th stage of the Vuelta a España 2010, when he was surprisingly achieve victory in the time trial against Russian Denis Menshov and Swiss Fabian Cancellara and reach the third place overall.

On the penultimate stage, a mountain-top finish on the Bola del Mundo, Velits lost indeed to all direct competitors time, but could successfully defend his podium.
