Petras Vaitiekūnas

Petras Vaitiekūnas ( born March 26, 1953 in Liudvinavas, district Marijampolė ) is a Lithuanian diplomat and politician.

1976 graduated from Petras Vaitiekūnas a study of physics at the University of Vilnius. From 1976 to 1990 he was a research assistant at the Physics Institute of the Academy of Sciences in Vilnius, where he received his doctorate in 1983. He was a deputy of the Supreme Council (1990-1992) one of the signers of the declaration of the state independence on 11 March 1990.

From 1992 he worked in various positions in the diplomatic environment. Including as adviser to the President of Parliament as adviser to the president. 1999 to 2004 he was Lithuanian Ambassador to Latvia from 2005 to 2006 and Ambassador to Belarus. From 12 July 2006 to 9 December 2008, he was Foreign Minister of Lithuania.
