Poproč, Košice-okolie District

Poproč ( until the 19th century Slovak " Podproč "; Hungarian Jászómindszent - until the end of the 18th century only Mindszent ) is a city and a municipality in Košice - okolie Okres the Košice Region in eastern Slovakia, with a population of 2761 ( 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the upper valley of the river Bodva, at the foot of the mountain Volovské Hills, which is a part of the Slovak Ore Mountains. Poproč is four kilometers from Jasov and about 30 kilometers from the regional capital Košice.

History

A predecessor of the present-day village is mentioned as Elchuan 1255, but was probably towards the end of the 13th century down. Today's church is first mentioned in 1358 as Medzenth. The story is tightly integrated to the monastery Jasov and there was once rich silver deposits in the mountains.

In 1919, the date the county Abaúj- Torna lying and the Kingdom of Hungary belongs place to Czechoslovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Award 1938-45 he was again part of Hungary.
