The train station is on the railway line Hamm- Minden ( KBS 370) and is connected to the station with the railway wages wages - Rheine ( KBS 375 ).

History

The railway line between Hamm ( Westphalia ) and Minden ( Westphalia ) was on 15 October 1847 by the Cologne -Minden Railway Company as the last part of their regular route and continuation of the built in previous compound ( Cologne ) Deutz- Dusseldorf -Duisburg- Dortmund -Hamm opened. As of 1856, the Hanoverian Western Railway used the route in the direction of Osnabrück.

Here, the Weser breakthrough put the path planner with immense problems. The Weser river flowed here to zoom close to the foot of Jacob Hill and from there into a sharp bend to the north- west on the site of the current station, the forecourt and the main road. The river bed was moved for the then two-track railway construction to the left bank of the Weser by Barkhausen and filled the old river bed. The first station building of 1847, his place opposite the entrance of the old sand stone tunnel. However, for it had to be created also at Jacob Berg decision of the railway company place, the mountain was dug here on a height and width of around 100 meters. The broken material was used for the leveling of the station square and the railway embankment dam in the house Berger Weseraue.

The station was built in the Norman style, had a three-story, polygonal tower and looked more like a summer residence than as a railway station, the railway company called the new station Porta and not local mountains, because the community 's local mountains at that time refused to construction of the building to award a grant.

With the widening of the railway line to four tracks from 1911 the current station building was built in 1913-1916 south of the old building. For this it was necessary to change the water gap again river and one more time to relocate further west. On the right bank of the Weser retaining walls have been built that are still available today. The new building was built on the filled-in former Weser course, what a special foundation required: The foundations had to be driven down to the rocky ground and are partially arch-like created .. The old station building remained until 1953, then became part of the new Weser bridge construction demolished. The new building was plastered white, the tracks were deeper on the western shore as the entrance hall on the mountain.

The station was designed to be particularly large, but it was expected due to the scenic location on the mountain cleft between Wiehen and Wesergebirge with large excursions. Here, the lying on the opposite bank of the Kaiser Wilhelm monument was reached by a bridge. There was a bus service to the station Porta on the left bank of the Weser, 1954-1965 served the trolleybus Minden this route. At the Porta ended until 1959 a tram Minden.

On 20 January 1944, a severe train crash in Porta Station. Shortly after passing through the station on the express train D 3 (Cologne - Berlin ) held due to an emergency stop. The following DMW 103 ( Aachen- Berlin) had already received from the dispatcher of the railway station, the permission to enter, which led to the collision of trains. In the accident 79 people were killed, there were 64 injured.

In 1984 it was renamed the station Porta in the current name Porta Westfalica. In 1973, the surrounding communities had been united to the city Porta Westfalica

Through the construction of new road connections through the transverse valley of the Weser, including the Weserauentunnels, the transport links to the train station in the 1990s has changed. There was a new river bridge that now crosses the Weser not north, but south of the station. This is now no bus connection to the station at Barkhausen more because the buses from local mountains go straight over the river Weser.

In 1993 the station was divided between several operating points: the point of access for passenger services were outsourced to the operating agency Porta Westfalica Hp and the breakpoint and also a branch point Porta Westfalica ( Abzw ) was established. The station was since then only of the equipment for the transport of goods to the freight line. These systems are now out of service.

Use of the reception building

After the German railway had sold the property in the 1990s, bought 1996 Gerd Langwald the vacant property. He built it to a nightclub, which he pursued first in-house. In 2007 he leased the nightclub to a Bad Oeynhausen merchant who established the Disco PW there. The lease ran out in 2012, a re-use is not known.

Railway stations

The four-track route is divided into a passenger and freight line with two tracks. The station tracks were accessible until the sale of the reception building with a passage through this building and a staircase. It was the staircase, that is, both the bridge and up the stairs to the two platforms, built over the uniform architectural style. After the sale of the reception building in private hands and re-use as a nightclub the previous access was shut down. At the same time was a demolition of two platforms on a platform, via the two directional tracks that are now being used for passenger transport, are achievable. A narrow outdoor staircase that allows access around the building, was created. Between November 2007 and the end 2009, a new access bridge were built with lift and modernized the platform. In the reception building is now the nightclub PW is first
