Pritzker Architecture Prize

The Pritzker Architecture Prize (English Pritzker Architecture Prize ), and Pritzker Prize, is a world renowned award for architecture. It was donated in 1979 by Jay A. Pritzker Americans ( owner of inter alia the Hyatt hotel chain ) and his wife Cindy and has been organized since the demise of the Hyatt Foundation. The annual award is worth $ 100,000 and highly regarded in professional circles in high esteem.

The architecture curator at the Art Institute of Chicago Martha Thorne was appointed on 19 August 2005 as the new Director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize Committee.

The first and only Austrian, who received the award, was Hans Hollein (1985 ), the first and only German Gottfried Böhm ( 1986). From Switzerland include Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron (2001) and Peter Zumthor (2009) to the winners. In 2004, a woman was recognized for the first time: The originating from Iraq British Zaha Hadid was awarded the prize " for their life's work ."
