Production

Private Dancer is the fifth solo album by American singer Tina Turner. It is the most successful album of the artist and gave her worldwide breakthrough as a solo artist. In addition, she established herself on the music of the album as Queen of Rock, what they steadily strengthened with subsequent albums.

Genesis

The album consists partly of written songs for Tina Turner, and partly from interpreted by their cover versions. On the songwriting process Tina Turner did not participate. Musically the album is a mix of rock, R & B, pop and new wave elements. This represents a departure from the earlier Soul releases with her ​​ex-husband Ike Turner dar.

Tour

The Private Dancer Tour was the first solo tour of the singer and comprised a total of 176 concerts, which led her to Europe, North America, Australia and Asia. The nearly year-long tour began on February 8, 1985, almost three quarters of a year after the album came on the market, with a presence in Zurich, Switzerland. Singles

" Let's Stay Together " was created in collaboration with Heaven 17 and was in 1983, before emergence of the Private Dancer album, released as a single. She reached in, inter alia, the UK ranked sixth in the Netherlands fourth in the singles charts. A few months later, the single was released in the United States and had success. It was so Tina Turner's first hit after her separation from Ike. The song was written by Al Green and published in 1972 on Al Green's eponymous album. The success of Tina Turner had with her version largely contributed to the fact that the album Private Dancer was produced.

"Better Be Good to Me " was released as the first single from the album. The single version reached number five on the Billboard charts in the U.S.. The song won the Grammy Award for " Best Female Rock Vocal Performance ".

"What's Love Got to Do with It" was released as the second single. It peaked in the U.S. and Australia, the top places of the singles charts and was also Tina Turner's first No. 1 hit as a solo artist. The title was also used as the name of the eponymous film about Tina Turner's years with Ike Turner and the separation from him.

" Private Dancer " was released as a single in 1984. The song was written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and his band was supposed to appear on the album Love Over Gold ( 1982). Mark Knopfler, however, was of the opinion that only a woman could sing this song. " Private Dancer " is still often played by radio stations and found in many films and TV productions as a popular background song use and thus enjoys a huge brand awareness.

" I Can not Stand the Rain" was released as a single in 1985. The song was written by Ann Peebles, Don Bryant and Bernard Miller. Since then, there has been was covered by several artists / bands. Tina Turner's single version reached number 57 in Great Britain, in Germany and in France in ninth place second in the singles charts.

Furthermore, we could not find " Show Some Respect" and in the UK "Help" released as singles.

Review

While Private Dancer is the most successful album Turners, but they had since been again and again with this album measure what she succeeded in mostly good, even if the sales figures of later albums no longer zoom submitted to the level of their reference work.

Private Dancer is true, after several commercially not very successful solo releases, as Tina Turner's big break as a solo artist. In 1985, she won four Grammy Awards with the album; three of them for "What's Love Got To Do With It " and one for "Better Be Good To Me". Worldwide, Private Dancer sold over 20 million copies and is thus one of the world's 100 best-selling albums of all time.

Private Dancer Tour
