Province of Jaén (Spain)

The province of Jaén (Spanish Provincia de Jaén) is one of the eight provinces of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The capital is Jaén. It is located in north-eastern Andalusia and borders the provinces of Córdoba and Granada also Andalusian and to the provinces of Ciudad Real and Albacete of the Autonomous Community of Castile -La Mancha. The province covers 13,484 km ², its population amounts to 664 916 people (2013 ), of which approximately 17% live in the capital. The province comprises 97 municipalities, which are divided into 10 Comarcas since 2003.

Although touristy considered one of the lesser-known provinces of Spain Jaén, the province has some interesting sights to offer: it has four nature reserves: the Sierra de Andújar, Despeñaperros, the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas (she has the size of the La region Rioja) and the Sierra Magina and other nature reserves. Also located in Jaén two important Renaissance cities, namely Ubeda and Baeza. The annual chess tournament regularly draws in Linares Similarly to the world's best players.

The province of Jaén is one of the world's most important areas of the production of olive oil, which characterizes the province.

The following 15 cities had more than 10,000 inhabitants in 2013.

A further 13 municipalities had more than 5,000 to 10,000 inhabitants, 53 more than 1,000 to 5,000 inhabitants and 16 municipalities up to 1,000 inhabitants. Smallest municipality is Hinojares with 395 inhabitants.
