Province of Lugo

The Lugo province located in the northwest of Spain and is part of the Autonomous Community of Galicia. Capital is the city of Lugo.

Geography

The Lugo province occupies the northeastern part of Galicia. With 9856 km ², it is the geographically largest province of the autonomous community. It is bordered on the north by the Cantabrian Sea, on the west by the provinces of Pontevedra and A Coruña, in the south of the province of Ourense and on the east by the autonomous communities of Asturias and Castilla y León.

The landscape of the province is mountainous for the most part. The gradually sloping towards the coast foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains extend into the eastern part of the province, including the Sierra de Ancares ( 1,826 m) and the Sierra del Courel ( 1,624 m). In the West, several belonging to the Galician mountain system groups, such as El Faro are ( 1,156 m). Levels are found mainly in the center of the city of Lugo and in the south near the second largest city in Monforte de Lemos. The seashore is torn and forms numerous Rias. Main river of the province of Lugo is the Miño, which rises here and the province flows in a southerly direction. Upon leaving the province he takes on the Sil.
