Province of Pontevedra

The Spanish province of Pontevedra is part of the Autonomous Community of Galicia. The province occupies the south-western part of Galicia. Capital of the province is the city of Pontevedra.

The Pontevedra province is bordered on the north by the province of A Coruña, on the east by the provinces of Lugo and Ourense, in the south of Portugal and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The border with Portugal, and previously a section of the border with the province of Ourense is the Rio Miño.

The province has 943 117 inhabitants (as of 2006), of which 79,000 live in the provincial capital. However, the most important city in terms of population of the province and the autonomous community of Galicia Vigo.

The Pontevedra province is divided into 10 Comarcas and 62 municipalities.
