Przemysław II, Duke of Cieszyn

Przemislaus II (also Primislaus II, Przemislaw II, * 1420, † 1477 ) was from 1431 until his death in 1477 the Duke of Teschen and 1460 Duke of Glogau. He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piast dynasty.

Life

Primislaus parents Teschen Duke Boleslaw I. and were Eufemia of Mazovia. 1460/68 he married Anna († 1477/80 ), a daughter of the Duke Boleslaw IV of Mazovia. The marriage came from the only daughter Hedwig (1469-1521), 1483 the Hungarian magnates István Zápoľský († 1499 ) married.

After the death of his father Boleslaw I. 1431 Primislaus II inherited along with his brothers Wenceslas I, Władysław and Boleslaw II the possession. Since they were not yet of age, they were initially under the tutelage of her mother, who also exercised the regency over the duchy to 1442. Following the division this year Primislaus II received a part of the Duchy of Cieszyn. Along with the Dukes of Opava Wilhelm, Nicholas V. Ratibor Hunters Village and Henry IX. of Glogau he fought in 1443 brigandage. After his brother Boleslaw II in 1452 the death Primislaus II took over the guardianship of his minor son Casimir II After the extinction of the pike Rossitz the Moravian rule Rossitz got to Primislaus II, which he sold in 1464 to Hynko of Kukwitz.

Like his brother Władysław also supported Primislaus the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad. In 1458 he received from this deposit, the Moravian rule Eichhorn and resided temporarily at the local castle. In 1459 he paid homage to Georg von Podiebrad, on whose behalf he 1460 a meeting of Czech and Polish representative in Bytom mediated, which finally in May 1462 led to a meeting of George of Podiebrad with the Polish king Casimir IV Jagiello in Glogau. On occasion of the meeting, a mutual defensive alliance was agreed upon. After the death of his brother Władysław 1460 Primislaus inherited his 'royal' half of Glogau, which his grandfather had Primislaus I. inheritance rights received in 1384 by the Czech King Wenceslas, which initially but Wladislaus widow Barbara of Celje state as their dowry.

During the Hungarian- Bohemian War II Primislaus fought alongside George of Podiebrad. Together with the Troppauer Governor Bernard of Birka Nassiedel ( Birka z Násidle ) he conquered all of Upper Silesia. Presumably, therefore, occupied Matthias Corvinus 1468/69 the castle Eichhorn. In addition, Corvinus handed illegally the " royal " half of Glogau the Duke Heinrich XI. of Glogau, who had in 1467 after the death of his father inherited the " ducal " half of Glogau. Nevertheless homage Primislaus II 1469 Matthias Corvinus and was present at his election as king of Bohemia in Olomouc. As he subsequently maintained good relations with Matthias Corvinus, the Duchy of Teschen was only slightly drawn into the hostilities.

Along with the Dukes of Opava Viktorin and his brother Henry the Elder. Münsterberg and the Opole brothers Nicholas II and John II belonged to Primislaus II 1473 a gegildeten of King Matthias Corvinus coalition that captured the Rybniker Duke Wenceslas, the possession was handed over to Viktorin of Opava. To a deterioration of relations with Matthias Corvinus came when this Primislaus II suspected to have contacted the rightful king Vladislav II.

Primislaus II died on March 18, 1477 and was buried in Teschen church of the Dominicans. Since he left no male heirs, his nephew Kazimir II succeeded him as Duke of Teschen.
