Pushead

Pushead ( real name: Brian Schroeder ) is an American artist and musician. He is especially known for his graphic designs for the bands Metallica and The Misfits. As a singer he was active in Septic Death. He also has a label called Pusmort Records, published recordings on bands like Poison Idea and Final Conflict.

Biography

Brian Schroeder initially grew up in San Bernardino, California and began in 1964 with the skateboarding. Between six and eight years of age, he also began to draw. In high school, he took some drawing classes. In 1970 he moved to Boise, Idaho. In 1978 he moved back to California and joined the local skate scene. However, he lost his job and moved a short time later back to Boise. The capital of the state was populated at that time primarily by Mormons, who had a great impact on the cultural life of the city. Since he saw himself early on as an outcast, he gave himself the pseudonym Pushead (Eng. about " pus head").

The early 1980s he began several flyers for concerts in Los Angeles to design. The hardcore punk band Wasted Youth took over (without Pusheads consent ) a graphic as a cover for her album. However, the album cover made ​​him known in the scene and more and more people came up to him. A short time later published numerous papers around the world. He also began skateboards and artwork for the magazine Thrasher to design and had there with The Puszone a section with plate reviews.

Pushead was the vocalist of the hardcore punk band Septic Death, one of the first U.S. bands of this style of music. She was active from 1981 to 1986. At the same time he built up his underground label Pusmort, which also brought out publications of Onslaught, Poison Idea and Final Conflict, as well as various Grindcore and Metal sampler in addition to recordings of his own band. The label was was active until the mid- 1990s. Until today, however, the active sub-labels Bacteria Sour Records is based in San Francisco, where Pushead lives since 1984.

Pushead is responsible as an illustrator for a series of Band designs. Among other things, he designed several t-shirt and sound designs for Metallica, and The Misfits. This and the work of Corrosion of Conformity, Rocket from the Crypt and Dr. Octagon is among his best known works. Also known are his subcultural, scene-related works. So he designed among other things, the logo of the Better Youth Organization, artworks for various fanzines, as well as concert posters and flyers.

In 2005 he designed for the sporting goods manufacturer Nike a design for the sneaker Dunk Low Pro SB. He also designed a skateboard design for the manufacturer Superfishal.

Today, Pushead primarily focused on the design of vinyl figures.

The menu structure of the video game Guitar Hero: Metallica is based primarily on designs by Pushead.
