Pyhäjoki

Pyhäjoki [ pyhæjɔki ] is a municipality in Western Finland. It is located around 100 km south of the city of Oulu at the mouth of the river Pyhäjoki in the Gulf of Bothnia.

History

Pyhäjoki in 1573 at the behest of the Swedish King John III. founded. The power of his governor area encompassed the entire valley of Pyhäjoki to the present city Pyhajarvi. The municipality consists Pyhäjoki since 1865.

Community

Economy

Pyhäjoki was chosen as the site for the third nuclear power plant in the country after the plants in Loviisa and Olkiluoto on the peninsula, which will set up the Finnish consortium Fennovoima. The development work should start before the end of 2012. In October 2012, E.ON, which is involved with 34% of the consortium to try to sell these shares were known. This means the future of the project is uncertain, as it is assumed that the 70 smaller companies participating in the consortium can not raise the capital costs alone.

Attractions

Built after a drawing by Carl Ludwig Engel wooden parish church of Pyhäjoki burned down in 1974. In 1977 it was replaced by a modern building of prestressed concrete.
