Rakovski (town)

Rakowski (also: Rakovski; Bulgarian: Раковски ) is a city and administrative center of a municipality of the same name in the Oblast Plovdiv in central Bulgaria. The city with 17,253 inhabitants, is located in the Thracian plain, some 25 km northeast of Plovdiv. It is located on the street No. 56, the direction leading from Plovdiv to the northeast after Shipka. The A1 motorway is 10 km away to the south.

The city is named after Georgi Rakovsky (1821-1867), a Bulgarian revolutionary, ideologist, politician, writer, reconnaissance and activists of the Bulgarian National Revival.
