Basics of lists

Germany

In Germany, the company publishes the Conservation of Old and Endangered Livestock Breeds (GEH ) since the 1980s annual Red List of endangered farm animal breeds in Germany. The hazard categories are " extremely vulnerable ", " endangered ", " endangered ", " inventory observation " and " only single animals." A breed is considered impaired when the stock is the minimum number ( horses, pigs, goats, donkeys: 5000 animals, sheep: 1500 Animals, Cattle: 7,500 animals) below and decreases over a period of two years, an average of at least 10 %. The classification in the hazard categories is done by professionals, including portfolio development and their prognosis.

As part of the professional program for the conservation and sustainable use of animal genetic resources, which was adopted by the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the federal and state governments in 2003, the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food ( BLE ), the online freely available Central Documentation of Animal Genetic Resources in Germany ( TRGDEU ) with classification into categories according to inventory risk. A created from these data Red List is available to the public as a Red List of threatened indigenous livestock breeds in Germany. The hazard categories are

  • " PCP " ( Phenotypic Conservation Population: unarguable cultural value, but only rudiments )
  • " ECA " ( Conservation Population )
  • " BEO " (observation population )
  • "NG" (not endangered).

The categorization is done on the effective population size, which is calculated from the number of female and male animals. In some cases a different classification (indicated by *) which would incorporate additional technical aspects. The list includes horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and donkeys. 2006 by the Association of German breed poultry ( BDRG ) and the GEH was created a Joint Red List of old, indigenous and endangered poultry breeds for the species of poultry (chicken, goose, duck, turkey), which was included in the list of the BLE. There are five risk categories ( Category I = highest risk ). The extension to other livestock species such as rabbits, dogs and bees is sought.

In this list the breeds are recorded in the brochure of the BLE (as of 2008), are listed as endangered in the TRGDEU or from the GEH. In Germany, the Versatile initiative to preserve Old and Endangered Livestock Breeds ( CATTLE ) publishes a Red List on the foreign breeds are called. Every year, all inventory numbers of livestock arks. recognized at home and abroad. The current and previous inventory figures of contract farms are published.

Austria

In Austria is dedicated to the Austrian National Association for genetic reserves ( ÖNGENE ) the inventory of local endangered breeds of farm animals and to adopt measures for the conservation of endangered breeds. In addition, leads the ark Austria - Association for the preservation of rare breeds of farm animals, which actively seeks to preserve endangered animal species in Austria, also a list of endangered species. In this list the endangered breeds mentioned by the ÖNGENE are also included and some extra 's Ark Austria.

Large Animals

52 of 74 native breeds of the five major species are classified as endangered by the Advisory Board on Animal Genetic Resources in Germany.

The above-mentioned categories of endangerment of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food are defined as follows since 2013.

Races this hazard category " can be understood only as rudiments of animal breeding scientific point of view. " Their cultural value, however, is undisputed. The remaining animal stocks geneologisch not be clearly attributed to the origin of the breed. The breed was already heavily mixed with other races in their re-establishment, had fallen only on very few animals or has several generations only very small population sizes on.

For these breeds special breeding programs for genetic conservation are developed, created Kryoreserven and monitoring carried out. Reasons for a deviation of the calculated lower estimated risk may be only a local distribution of the breed, a "very problematic breeders structure or the dynamics of the stock decline ."

For races of observation populations Kryoreserven be created and a monitoring performed. If Ne computationally speaks for ECA, classification in BEO can be carried out even " if the population is stable and an effective breeding program for the conservation of the genetic variance is applied. "

In the in July 2012 by the Advisory Board for Animal Genetic Resources confirmed " list of old indigenous poultry breeds in Germany " only the original colors beats are performed. As a home already in place before 1930 bred in Germany breeds that have or have had lasting benefits.

The classification of all races in five risk categories based on the number of breeding:

However, they were not classified into categories of risk. Only the Society for the Conservation of Old and Endangered Livestock Breeds (GEH ) make an (incomplete ) classification. Below indigenous breeds of rabbits with stocks to 300 ( German ) breeds are listed in the detection of 2008.
