Rašid Mahalbašić

Rasid Mahalbašić ( born November 7, 1990 in Jesenice, Slovenia ) is a Slovenian- Austrian professional basketball player of Bosnian origin. Mahalbašić is one of the few Austrian professionals besides Benjamin Ortner and the Native Americans Jason Detrick who earn their money in the highest leagues abroad. Mahalbašić get 2010 a long-term contract with Fenerbahçe Ülker, a participating at the highest European competitions Turkish club team, but was initially loaned out to other clubs. 2012, this contract was terminated and Mahalbašić played for Asseco Prokom the Polish champion in the ULEB Euro League 2012/13 and summer 2013 for the Utah Jazz in the NBA Summer League. Since the 2013/14 season, the Austrian national team plays for the Czech CEZ Nymburk series champion.

Career

Born in the border Jesenice in a Bosniak family came Mahalbašić 2002 with his family to Austria after his father was professionally active here. A year later he received the Austrian citizenship, so that henceforth he played in the Austrian youth national teams and could make a lasting attention in the finals of the Division B on there. Already in the 2006/07 season he made his debut for the Wörthersee pirates from Klagenfurt in the highest class ÖBL Seniors play. Although he could not be placed with this team until 2010 at the front of the field in the league, but as the most talented young player, he played in the European Championship Division B 2009 already in the men's national team.

2010 got Mahalbašić the Turkish top club Fenerbahçe Ülker Istanbul from a six -year contract. But first he was then hired at the end of December 2010 for a month at Premier League rivals in the Türkiye Ligi Basketbol Tofaş SK from Bursa. After his return he was then loaned to the former European champions KK Split in Croatia, where he played until the end of season. While Zlatorog finished second in the ABA league after just two wins in 26 games the last place, it was enough in the national championship yet to move into the play-off semi-final series in which one of the defending champion and former Euro Challenge winner KK Krka from Novo mesto subject. In the 2012/13 season Mahalbašić got a contract with the Polish Asseco Prokom Gdynia series champion. In this team, the 2012/13 acted in the ULEB Euro League at the highest European club level, he was able to secure a lot of effort and time of play quickly. After the impending withdrawal of the main sponsor the team but did not act on the high level of the previous years and could after leaving in the first round of the European competition in the national championship title not defend. In the summer of 2013 Mahalbašić was allowed to play in the NBA Summer League for the Utah Jazz, but could not recommend there for a longer term contract.
