Rémondans-Vaivre

Rémondans -Vaivre is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rémondans -Vaivre is located on 415 m, 4 km west of Pont -de- Roide and approximately 16 km south-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The double municipality extends in a valley widening the Ranceuse, at the northern foot of the Lomont in the northern French Jura.

The area of ​​9.19 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ranceuse, which has a width of 1 km and a length of about 3 km. The Ranceuse, which is fed by various short side streams, ensures the drainage east to the Doubs. Both in the north and in the south the agricultural basin is surrounded by steep hills, crowned at its upper edge at different locations of a resistant Kalkfelsband. History

Remains of a prehistoric settlement site indicate a very early settlement of the municipality of Rémondans -Vaivre. The Valley of Ranceuse was probably made ​​and settled first cultivated in the 7th or 8th century. In the Middle Ages belonged Rémondans and Vaivre to rule Neuchâtel. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In 1976, the merger of two previously independent municipalities Rémondans and Vaivre to today's double church was completed.

Population

With 230 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Rémondans -Vaivre is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 90 and 130 people, a significant population growth was recorded particularly during the 1970s and 80s.

Economy and infrastructure
