Rennes-les-Bains

Rennes- les- Bains is a municipality with 227 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) with Celtic / Roman origins in southern France in the Aude department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region about 40 kilometers south of Carcassonne and about twelve miles from the mountain Pic de Bugarach. It is known for its four warm water springs in respect of which the Romans had a spa built next to this place.

Rennes- les- Bains is a neighboring town of Rennes- le -Château. Only one way - today a small road - connects the two towns over the intervening mountain.

The small town is often associated with the "mystery" of Rennes- le -Château in conjunction, as the vicar Henri Boudet (1872-1914) is associated with Bérenger Saunière, the then parish priest of Rennes- le -Château. Whether these two church men actually had a friendly relationship, however, is controversial.

Boudet describes in his book " la vraie langue celtique " ( 1891), around two Celtic stone circles around Rennes- les- Bains, parts of which actually exist.

Today the little village with very few inhabitants is a Touristenpilgerort for mysteries researchers, Vorpyrenäenliebhaber and followers of the New Age movement.
