Camurac

Comus is a commune of 115 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Le Pays de Sault. In Comus there is the only ski area in the Pyrenees in the department of Aude. The tourist name for the region around Comus is Cathar country.

Geography

Comus is situated in the south of France in the Pyrenees in the Pays d' Aillou on the western edge of the Aude, 98 kilometers south-east of Toulouse 37.4 km south west of Limoux, the seat of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissements, and 3.9 kilometers southwest of Belcaire, the capital of the canton, on an average height of 1449 meters above sea level. The Mairie is at an altitude of 1221 meters. Neighboring communities of Comus Comus are in the northwest, Belcaire in the northeast, La Fajolle the southeast and Montaillou in the West. Montaillou is already in the neighboring department of Ariège. The municipality has an area of ​​1161 hectares.

Culture and sights

The Comus castle dates from the 16th century. It is privately owned and is now used as a summer camp and board.

In the center stands a wayside cross, which was erected in 1771. It was classified in 1976 as a historical monument. In the Church of Saint -Just- Saint- Pasteur are more listed buildings. This includes a silver ciborium, which was produced 1809-1819, a silver cup, which was made 1819-1838 and an altarpiece from the last quarter of the 17th century.
