Revaz Mindorashvili

Revaz Mindoraschwili (Georgian რევაზ მინდორაშვილი; born July 1, 1976 in Gurjaani, Kakheti ) is a Georgian wrestler. He was the 2008 Beijing Olympic champion in free style at middleweight.

Life

Revaz Mindoraschwili grew up in Tbilisi and began in 1992 with the rings. Dinamo Tbilisi became his coach Dato Gonaschwili and Marlen Osakmaschwili. Mindoraschwili evolved over the years to an outstanding freestyle wrestler. He is only 1,73 m tall, stocky and immensely physically strong. Earlier in his career he fought at welterweight, middleweight since 2002. He is currently Professional wrestler and wrestling in this context in foreign leagues, such in Turkey and in Germany, where he went to the mat for the SC Anger.

His international career began in Ringer 1998, when he was already outgrown the junior class. He finished this year at the Universities World Cup in Ankara Welterweight 4th Place. In 1999 he competed at the European Championships in Minsk welterweight, losing to Radion Kertanti from Slovakia and Hungary Arpad Ritter from which he retired and was classified in 13th place.

In 2000, he competed in the Olympic qualifying tournaments in Minsk (13th place) and in Leipzig ( 11th place ). With these placements him to qualify for the Olympic Games in Sydney but did not succeed. He was employed at the European Championships in Budapest, where he finished in 8th place in the welterweight division with a win over Christian White from Germany and defeats against Eugen Preda, Romania and Buwaisar Saitijew from Russia in 2001. He was also in the World Cup this year in Sofia at the start and won there over Alexander Leipold of Germany and Volodymyr Sirotin from Ukraine. After another defeat against Bouwaisar Saitijew he left and came on the 7th Place.

Then in 2002 he succeeded for the first time wrestling in the middleweight division at the European Championships in Baku, his first medal win at an international championship. He won in Baku on Thomas Bucheli from Switzerland, Serhat Balci, Turkey and Yuriy Janovics from Latvia, lost to Beibulat Musaev from Belarus and won with a victory over Magomed Ibragimov from Macedonia the European Championship bronze medal. At the World Cup in 2006 in Tehran, he triumphed over Eldar Assanow from Ukraine and Nicholas Ugoalah from Canada and Yoel Romero Palacio defeated by Cuba, which he reached the 6th place.

2003 Mindoraschwili celebrated at the European Championships in Riga his first title victory. In the middleweight division, he won over Akber Ismailov from Azerbaijan, Egidius Vielavicius from Lithuania, Sergei Borchenko from Belarus, Vadim Lalijew from Russia and Mahmud Agajew from Armenia and thus became European Champion. At the World Championship 2003 in New York it will first be taken victories over Almazbek Ergeschow, Kyrgyzstan, Lazaros Loizidis, Greece and Gökhan Yavaser, Turkey. In his fourth fight he lost to the American shooting star Cael Sanderson, but won with a victory over Sergei Borchenko nor the World Cup bronze medal.

In 2004 Mindoraschwili was in Ankara with wins over David Bichinaschwili from Germany and camel Shalorous, Great Britain, a defeat against Vadim Laliew, a win over Lazaros Loizidis and a defeat against Goekhan Yavaser European vice-champion. For the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he believed therefore to be well prepared. In Athens, he met right in the first round in the Greek Lazaros Loizidis, whom he had defeated several times. In the stormy accentuation his Greek compatriots but Loizidis grew beyond itself and won over Revaz Mindorashwili on points. A subsequent point victory over Vincent Aka Akesse from France brought Mindoraschwili only on the disappointing 13th place.

Also in the 2005 European Championships in Varna came Mindoraschwili not a medal rank. Although he won over Edgar Janokjan from Armenia and Radoslaw Horbik from Poland, but was defeated by Taras Danko from Ukraine and Lazaros Loizidis and only reached the 5th place. Without great expectations he participated after an injury break at the 2005 World Championships in Budapest. He was there but getting better battle to fight, defeating in succession Travis Cross from the United States, Anthony Fasugba from Italy, Magomed Kuruglijew from Kazakhstan, Saschid Saschidow from Russia and Yoel Romero Palacio and became world champion at middleweight.

At the European Championships in Moscow in 2006 Mindoraschwili defeated by Adam Saitijew, the brother of Buwaisar Saitijew and, somewhat demotivated even against David Bichinaschwili and therefore only reached the 18th place. But far more successful he was at the World Championships the same year in Guangzhou in China. He won there over David Bichinaschwili, Ganhuyag Ganzorig from Mongolia, Vadim Laliew and Sajurbek Sochijew from Uzbekistan. Only in the final he was defeated by Saschid Saschidow and thus became vice - world champion.

In 2007 Mindoraschwili was only at the World Championships in Baku at the start. He lost his first fight there surprisingly identical to Nauru Srapilowitsch Temresow from Azerbaijan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and finished only indisputable for him 30th place.

At the 2008 European Championships in Tampere Mindoraschwili was with victories against his long-time rival David Bichinaschwili, Javier Ramos, Spain, Ivan Jankowski, Belarus and Sergei Kolesnikov, Israel and a defeat against the 2007 World Champion Georgi Ketojew from Russia again Vice-European Champion. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing him against Bichinaschwili managed a points victory in the very last seconds of the third round, he defeated Harutjun Jenokjan from Armenia and world champion Georgi Ketojew and also won the final battle over Yusup Abdusalamow from Tajikistan and thus became Olympic champion.

Since 2012 Rewas Mindorashwili head coach in the Georgian Wrestling Federation.
