Rimske Toplice

Rimske Toplice ( German: Roman Bath ) is a village in the Slovenian region Lower Styria United belongs to the municipality Lasko. It is located 213 meters above sea level in the valley of the Savinja between Lasko and Zidani Most and is surrounded by forested mountains. The famous Slovenian poet Anton Aškerc was born here.

Thermal springs

Rimske Toplice is famous for its mineral springs, which have been appreciated by the Romans, as the name suggests. More than 2,000 years ago, they laid here on the first basin. Were first mentioned in the sources in 1486, but until 1840 they were expanded to modern spas, after the wife of the triester businessman Gustav Adolf Uhlich, Amalia, could be cured by the low-level radioactive water. With the Eröffnunge the railway line Vienna -Trieste in 1848, more and more guests visited the spas, especially wealthier people from Trieste, Hungary and Zagreb. It was the custom to plant exotic trees among the distinguished guests, so that you can still find, for example, Canadian hemlock, Japanese Hibalebensbäume, cypress, cedar or California near the spa today.

After the Second World War, the spa has been used as a health resort for members of the Yugoslav army. Since 1991, she was, however, increasingly in decline. Meanwhile, it is able to find investors for the restoration and the system is currently being renovated completely.
