Ris, Hautes-Pyrénées

Ris is a commune with 13 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Hautes -Pyrénées in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs administratively to the district Bagneres- de -Bigorre and Canton Bordères -Louron.

Geography

The municipality is located in the historical county of Bigorre, in the Pays d' Aure. The Spanish border at the crest of the Pyrenees is located about 15 kilometers to the south. The municipality is bordered to the east by the department of Haute- Garonne. Neighboring communities of Ris are:

  • Bareilles in the Northeast,
  • Bordères -Louron in the southeast and
  • Cazaux -Debat in the West.

The location of the community is the main town on the right flank of the Vallée du Louron above the valley, high above the river Neste you Louron, which runs along the valley floor through Bordères -Louron. The majority of its territory is mostly impassable mountains and forest at altitudes up to 2000 meters dar. Since this is hardly settled, resulting in a total very low population density.

The municipality has a number of cultural monuments, which are classified as a monument historique.

  • Chapelle Notre Dame des Neiges ( German: Kapelle " Maria Schnee " ): The chapel was built in 1884 in " Le Pradeau " and was the headquarters of a fraternity with about 25 members.
  • Église Saint -Blaise: remarkable Romanesque portal, decorated with consoles, and anointing oil.
