Risto Jalo

Risto Jalo ( born July 18, 1962 in Humppila ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player and functionary who has played in its active period from 1979 to 1998, including for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Risto Jalo began his career as a hockey player in the junior department of Koo- Vee, for the first team, he made his debut in the SM- liiga in the season 1979 /80. He then moved to the league rivals Ilves Tampere, for which he was on the ice in the next ten years and with whom he became Finnish Champion in the 1984/85 season. Last year he was also elected to the All-Star team of the SM- liiga and completed five games for the Finnish Olympic team, who took part as a guest team in the game operation of the SM- liiga.

During his time at Ilves the Washington Capitals selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round in 1981 when a total of 181 players, but he came to the team never used. Instead, the Capitals transferred the rights to the player on 6 March 1984 to their league rivals Edmonton Oilers. For the Oilers, he played at the beginning of the 1985/86 season by sample contract three games in the National Hockey League, where he prepared three goals. Nevertheless, he returned to Ilves Tampere and has been with the Finns in the 1989/90 season runner-up.

The season 1990/91 spent Jalo the Swedish second division IK Vita Hästen before he again returned for the next season to Ilves Tampere. After a year at HC Fassa in the Italian Serie A1, played the Olympians from 1984 in the 1993/94 season for the last time for his hometown club Ilves Tampere. From 1994 until his retirement in late 1998 at the age of 35 years was the former national player in HPK Hämeenlinna in the SM- liiga under contract and was during the entire period of captain. Because of his service to the Finnish Ice Hockey he was admitted in 2004 when a total of 138 players in the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame. From 1999 to 2004 Jalo General Manager at Tampere was his longtime former club Ilves.

Internationally

For Finland Jalo took at junior level at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1980, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 1981 and 1982 in part. The two U-20 World Championships he won a silver and a bronze medal with his team. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1983, 1985, 1987 and 1990, and at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
