Robert Holl

Robert Holl ( born March 10, 1947 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch opera, concert and lieder singer, composer and voice teacher. He is regarded as one of the greatest bass - baritones of our time.

Life and work

Robert Holl studied in Rotterdam and won at 24 years old the first prize at the International Vocal Competition in 's Hertogenbosch. Then he took classes with Hans Hotter in Munich. In 1972 he ersang the first prize at the ARD Competition in Munich. At the Bavarian State Opera he was engaged from 1973 to 1975, there was but little used in the Schedules. He took the time to retrain in the song singing.

In the following years Holl came mainly as a concert and lieder singer throughout Europe, the USA, Israel and Japan. He worked regularly with conductors such as Eugen Jochum, Karl Richter and Wolfgang Sawallisch. Soon he could also be heard in opera productions and see: as a guest at the Vienna State Opera, the Brussels Opera and since 1991 at the Zurich Opera House with roles such as the Speaker and Sarastro in The Magic Flute or Basilio in The Barber of Seville under the conductor Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Franz Welser -Möst.

At the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden Robert Holl sang under Daniel Barenboim the Landgraf Hermann in Tannhäuser, the Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, the Daland in The Flying Dutchman and the Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Vienna State Opera, conducted by Christian Thielemann also Landgrave in Tannhäuser and King Marke in Tristan und Isolde. At the Bayreuth Festival, he was since 1996 the Hans Sachs in the summer of 2004 he played at Bayreuth for the first time the role of GURNEMANZ in a new production of Wagner's Parsifal under the baton of Pierre Boulez. In 2007 he was Pimen in Mussorgsky Modest Boris Godunov at the Vienna State Opera for the first time.

In addition to his involvement in various opera houses, Robert Holl has made a name as a concert singer. His special love belongs to the German and the Russian song. Recitals lead the artist regularly in the international music centers. He is a regular guest of the Schubertiade Vorarlberg.

Robert Holl gives master classes in the Netherlands, Austria and Canada. He is also artistic director of Schubertiaden in Holland and Austria and became involved - including through benefit concerts - mainly for obtaining lock Atzenbrugg as Schubert memorial. Holl's stage presence and high-volume vocal power are also boasted as its flexible, intelligent song interpretation. He also emerged as a composer of songs and piano pieces.

1998 convened the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna Robert Holl as Associate Professor of Lied and Oratorio.

Honors

  • In October 1990, the Republic of Austria awarded him the title of chamber singers.
  • 1997 appointed him the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna and the Carinthian Summer Festival honorary member.
  • On 26 April 1997, Robert Holl, was added as an honorary member of the Brotherhood Krems wine at a festive ceremony in the Dominican church in Krems on the Danube.
  • On 31 May 2005 Holl was awarded the "Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class " by the State Secretary for Art and Media Franz Morak in a graceful ceremony at the Federal Chancellery.
  • On 27 October 2007 Holl has received the Order of the Netherlands Lion at the Konzerthaus De Doelen in Rotterdam.
