Robert T. Herres

Robert Tralles Herre ( born January 12, 1932 in Denver, Colorado, † 24 July 2008) was an American general in the U.S. Air Force, Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ( Joint Chiefs of Staff ) and manager.

Biography

After attending East High School in Denver, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and acquired there in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science (BS ). He then joined the Air Force and completed a postgraduate degree in electrical engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology, from which he graduated in 1960 with a Master of Science ( MS Electrical Engineering ). Another post-graduate degree in Public Administration at George Washington University, he finished in 1965 with a Master of Public Administration (MPA ). In the same year he was also a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College. Finally, he was in 1971 also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. At times, he was Commanding General of the U.S. 8th Air Force.

On July 30, 1984, he was appointed as general commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command ( NORAD ) and remained in this position as commander of the North American Air and Space Defense Command until 5 February 1987. He was also from 1985 to 1987 commander of the U.S. Space Command. He was then on 6 February 1987 First Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ( Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff ) and had this post until his adoption into retirement on 28 February 1990.

Following Herre joined the private sector and in 1990 president of the property and casualty company of USAA, the insurance company for members of the U.S. Army and their families. After that, he was from 1993 to 2000, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of USAA and was at the same time between 1993 and 2002 CEO of USAA and 2000-2004 member of the board of Luby 's, Inc..

Robert T. Herre was also involved in sociopolitical and was not only a curator ( Trustee ) Trinity University in San Antonio, but also a member of the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts organization Boy Scouts of America.
