Robert Zoller

Robert Zoller ( born April 9, 1961 in Mühlbach, Land Salzburg ) is a former Austrian alpine skier. He won the 1984 slalom World Cup and the World Cup 1985 bronze medal in this discipline.

Career

Zoller came at the age of eleven years to Salzburg Regional Ski Association. From the beginning, he concentrated on the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom. Later, he was included in the youth squad of the Austrian Ski and after several years in the C- and B- squad, he rose early 1980s in the A-team on. His first try in the World Cup he had on 5 January 1978 in the Slalom of Oberstaufen. For the time being but not yet he reached the points in his few World Cup inserts. In the European Cup he scored in the 1980/81 season, the first two victories in the slalom and giant slalom Mellau of Villach. The next winter he celebrated two victories in the two European Cup slalom in flour Meisel and thus passed the entrance to the Austrian Ski Federation 's national team. However, in the majority of the 1982/83 season he fell because of a serious knee injury ( collateral and cruciate ligament), which he suffered in training.

In winter 1983/84 incher managed in the World Cup the connection to the top. On 20 December 1983, he reached with the high start number 38 behind Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark second place in the slalom the 3- Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio and thus won his first World Cup points. The inclusion in the team for the Winter Olympics in February 1984 but did not succeed with it. Two weeks after the missed games, he won the slalom at Vail his first and only World Cup race and the end of March in Oslo was followed by yet a sixth slalom rank, which he reached the eighth place in the slalom World Cup in the 1983/84 season. In the 1984/85 season in December and January Zoller get three top 10 places in the slalom in Sestriere, Madonna di Campiglio and Wengen, making it a place at the World Cup 1985 in Bormio secured. There he won behind the Swede Jonas Nilsson and the booting of Luxembourg Marc Girardelli the bronze medal in the slalom. At season's end he managed for third place in the slalom at Heavenly Valley in the World Cup still a podium and was thus equal points with the Italians Alex Giorgi twelfth in the slalom World Cup. In the 1985/86 season Zoller could not quite connect to the previous year's results due to injury. His best result was the seventh place in the slalom in Lillehammer. At the end of the winter he withdrew from the World Cup and took part in professional racing until 1989. Zoller trained as a government graduate instructors and took over the management of one of the two ski schools in Mühlbach. He is also active as a coach in Hugo Nindls Austria Racing Camps.
