Roel Paulissen

Roel Paulissen (* April 27, 1976 in Hasselt ) is a Belgian mountain biker.

Roel Paulissen won the bronze medal in the cross country race in the U23 class at the Mountain Bike World Championships in 1998 at Mont Sainte -Anne. Five years later won his second bronze medal in Rivera. This time he had to go first in the race of men only his countryman Filip Meirhaeghe and the Canadian Ryder Hesjedal. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, he just missed a medal with his fourth place. In the mountain bike marathon world championships in 2006 in the French High Alps in Oisans, he won the bronze medal. In 2007 he won the vice world champion title at the Marathon World Championships in Verviers (B) and only had to concede defeat to the Swiss Christoph Sauser. In 2008, he now won the Marathon World Championships in Villa Bassa (I) and thus for the first time Gold Title combatants. He cited the two Swiss Christoph Sauser and Urs Huber on the 2nd and 3rd place in 2009 he defended in Graz (A) his title and was the 2nd time after 2008 MTB Marathon World Champion. In July 2010 it was announced that he had tested positive at Belgacom Grand Prix to clomiphene. Paulissen was fired on by his team with immediate effect.
