Roger Schmidt (football manager)

Roger Schmidt ( born March 13, 1967 in Kierspe ) is a German football coach, who oversees the Austrian first division side Red Bull Salzburg since 24 June 2012.

Career

After graduation Schmidt completed vocational training as a toolmaker. In his playing days as a football player, he was responsible for the Teams SC Verl (1995 to 2002) and SC Paderborn 07 ( to 1995 and 2002/ 03) in use. In parallel, he studied mechanical engineering with a focus on plastics engineering at the University of Paderborn. After a year at SV Lippstadt 08 Schmidt was from 2004 to the summer of 2007, coach at Delbrücker SC, where he had a successful time. He led the club of the Federation League to secure the middle of the Oberliga Westfalen.

In July 2007 he took over as coach of the then Oberliga Preußen Münster. For this activity, Schmidt submitted his resignation as an engineer at Benteler Automotive and signed a three -year contract with the Prussians. He rose with Preußen Münster on the Regionalliga. On 19 March 2010, the club parted from him, even though he was with the club in the table in fourth place.

For the season 2011/12 SC Paderborn committed 07 Roger Schmidt as the successor of the FC St. Pauli exchanged coach André Schubert. After a successful season with the Paderborn Bornern Schmidt broke up his contract to go to Austria for Red Bull Salzburg.

In his first year as Red Bull Salzburg coach he reached with the team only finished second, despite 77 points and 91 goals scored record highs were in the era of Red Bull each.
