The ROH World Championship ( to German ROH ( Ring of Honor ) World Cup), originally ROH Championship, the most important wrestling title for individual wrestlers from Ring of Honor The title is a World Heavyweight Title and through cooperation of Ring of Honor with the Global Professional Wrestling Alliance also been defended in other wrestling leagues. As in Wrestling common practice the allocated according to a predetermined storyline.

History

Low Ki defeated Spanky, Christopher Daniels and Doug Williams in a 60 minute Ironman Match to become the first ROH Champion. This happened at the show Crowning a Champion on 27 July 2002.

So far Samoe Joe had the longest title reign, he held the title for 21 months and 4 days. During this time, from the ROH Title ROH World Title after Samoe Joe on 17 May 2003 successfully at a show in the Frontier Wrestling Alliance called Frontiers of Honor defended the title in England. Since then, the title alongside the USA was defended in Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Mexico and Japan.

On 12 August 2006, the ROH Pure Championship with the ROH World Title was pooled after it came to a unification fight between then- World Champion Bryan Danielson and the former Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness. Danielson won the match for himself and then combined both titles.

To date, Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness have the most title defenses behind with a total of 38 ( Danielson: 33 wins, 1 loss, 3 Time -limit draw and a double- DQ / McGuinness: 34 wins, 3 losses, 1 Time -limit draw). In most countries, Austin Aries and Nigel McGuinness defended the title. Aries put the title in the U.S., Canada, Switzerland, Austria and Mexico on the line, while McGuinness previously defended the title in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, Italy and Japan.

Current title holder

The current title holder is Adam Cole in his first reign. He defeated on 20 September 2013 at Death Before Dishonor XI Michael Elgin in the tournament final for the vacant title.
