Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna

The Archdiocese of Kaduna (Latin: Archidioecesis Kadunaënsis ) is a location in Nigeria Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Kaduna.

History

The Archdiocese of Kaduna was established on August 24, 1911 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Prefecture of Upper Niger as Apostolic Prefecture of Eastern Nigeria. On 18 July 1929, the Apostolic Prefecture of Eastern Nigeria was by Pope Pius XI. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution A Nobis Apostolic Prefecture in northern Nigeria. On April 9, 1934, the Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Nigeria were parts of their territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Jos. The Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Nigeria was born on April 9, 1934 by Pius XI. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution Praedecessorum Nostrorum in Apostolic Prefecture of Kaduna. On April 28, 1942, the Apostolic Prefecture of Kaduna gave parts of their territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Niamey. A further transfer of territory took place on June 29, 1953 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Sokoto.

The Apostolic Prefecture of Kaduna was posted on June 29, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Magno gaudio to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Lagos is a suffragan. On 21 February 1955, the Diocese of Kaduna were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Kabba.

The Diocese of Kaduna was on 16 June 1959 by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Dei Qui arcano to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Kaduna announced on November 9, 1964 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Minna. For more territorial concessions were made on 22 March 1991 establishing the mission sui juris Kano, on 10 July 1995 establishing the bishopric Kafanchan and on 5 December 2000 establishing the bishopric of Zaria.
