Roman Catholic Diocese of Killala

The Diocese of Killala ( ir: Deoise Chill Ala, Latin: Dioecesis Alladensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Ireland. It was founded in the 6th century. Located in the ecclesiastical province of Tuam diocese has a size of 3754 km ² and in 1950 counted 47,971 Roman Catholics ( 97.4 %) in 22 parishes with 61 diocesan priests and 124 religious sisters, but had no religious priests. Seat of the diocese is Ballina ( Mayo ).

In the following years the area was affected by a rapid population decline, so that in 2002 there were still only 38.115 Catholics ( 97.1 %) in 22 parishes with 55 diocesan, 5 religious priests, 1 deacon and 69 religious sisters.
