Roman Catholic Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise

The Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise ( ir: Deoise Ardach agus Chluain Mhic Nois, Latin: Dioecesis Ardachadensis et Cluanensis ) is a location in Ireland Roman Catholic Diocese, named after the places and former Bishop Ardagh and Clonmacnoise seats. Today's bishopric is Longford.

History

The Diocese of Ardagh has emerged in the 5th century, as the first bishop applies St. Mel, nephew and fellow St. Patricks and current patron of the diocese. 1152 the diocese of Ardagh was finally built in the Synod of Kells and the Archdiocese of Armagh is a suffragan. 1756 it was united to the diocese of Clonmacnoise.
