Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuam

The Archdiocese of Tuam ( ir: Ard- Deoise Thuama, Latin: Archidioecesis Tuamensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church of Ireland, based in Tuam, County Galway.

As the first bishop of Tuam applies Iarlaithe mac Loga ( Jarlath ) in the 6th century. The diocese was founded in 1111 by the Synod of Rathbreasail and 1152 raised to the archbishopric. In the period following the medieval dioceses of Annaghdown and Mayo went on in the new diocese.

Under Elizabeth I. Mary's Cathedral from the 14th century, Anglican, and Catholic public worship remained until the 18th century prohibited. Only in the 19th century, the neo-Gothic Cathedral of the Assumption was built as the new bishop's church.

The area of the Archdiocese located in the west of Ireland. The dioceses of Achonry, Clonfert, Elphin, Galway and Kilmacduagh and Killala are assigned as suffragan sees.
