Roni Bar-On

Roni ( Ronnie ) Bar-On (Hebrew רוני בר - און; born June 2, 1948 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli politician. He was several times minister of his country.

Biography

After school he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and worked as a lawyer after graduating. His military service he served as a lieutenant colonel of the judicial service of the Israeli armed forces and as such was Judge of the Military Appellate Courts in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. Upon completion of military service, he was returned to the bar and between 1995 and 2003 Member of the Central Committee of the Bar Association.

In 1997 he was briefly Attorney General. He was from 1998 to 2001 Chairman of the Council for the organization of sports betting.

His political career began Bar-On, when he was first elected in February 2003 as a member of the Knesset since 2009 and in this first of the Likud, then briefly takes the Achrajut Le'umit and finally, the Kadima after his re- election in April 2006, and February. At times, he was leader of the Achrajut Le'umit.

Between 2003 and 2006 he was Chairman of the General Committee ( House Committee ) and the United Committee for the budget of the Knesset and member of numerous other committees.

In January 2006 he was appointed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for the first time in a government and was until May 2006 Minister of National Infrastructures, and at the same time Minister of Science and Technology.

In the subsequent government of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert he was then Minister of the Interior in May 2006, before following a government reshuffle, he was Minister of Finance from 4 July 2007 to 31 March 2009. In February 2007, he rejected his appointment as Minister of Justice from as successor Tzipi Livni.

He is currently a member of numerous committees of the Knesset as the General Committee, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence and the Committee on Constitution, Law and Justice.

In addition, Bar-On engaged in several associations and organizations such as the Regional Committee of the Bar Association of Jerusalem, the Council for the administrative courts, the Advisory Commission of the authority for government enterprises, the Commission for public defense and the management of the Israel Football Association and the football club Beitar Jerusalem. In addition, he was Vice Chairman of the Board of the Jerusalem Theater, director and representative of the public pension funds stomach Zahav and board member of the Bank Mishkan.
