Yehoshua Rabinovitz

Yehoshua Rabinowitz ( born November 12, 1911 in Vishnevo; † August 14, 1979 ) was an Israeli politician and Minister of the Avodah.

Life

After attending school and the visit of the teachers seminar in Vilnius, he was a teacher and rector active in Poland as well as an active member of Ha'Halutz movement. In 1934 he moved to Israel, where he was an employee of the cooperative " Mashbir Ha'Zarchan ". At the same time he studied economics and law at Tel Aviv. As a member of the Union of Consumer Cooperatives Directors, it was one of the leaders of this movement, and also an active member of the Haganah.

After the establishment of Israel in 1955 he became a member of the City Council of Tel Aviv and following 1959-1969 Vice Mayor and Treasurer of the City. In 1969, he was then in place of Mordechai Namir eventually even the mayor of Tel Aviv.

Subsequently, he was Housing Minister in 1974, the last government of Prime Minister Golda Meir from March 10 to June 3. In the subsequent Cabinet of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, he was until June 20, 1977 Minister of Finance. 13 June 1977 until his death he was a member of the Knesset, where he represented the interests of Avodah and was a member of the Finance Committee. After his death, Esther Herlitz moved according to the Knesset for him.
