Yaakov Neeman

Yaakov Neeman ( Ya'akov Ne'eman; Hebrew: יעקב נאמן; born September 16, 1939 in Tel Aviv) is the Minister of Justice of Israel. He is a member of the nationalist party Jisra'el Beiteinu of Avigdor Lieberman.

Biography

After school he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which he then graduated in 1964 with the acquisition of a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) and a Master of Laws ( LL.M.) from New York University. In 1968 he received his doctorate from New York University, Doctor of Laws ( LL.D. ) and was on his return from 1971 to 1976 professor of contract law, constitutional law, corporate law and tax law at Bar- Ilan University in Ramat Gan.

In 1972 he was co-founder and senior partner of the law firm of Herzog, Fox & Neeman and earned a reputation as a leading tax lawyer. In 1976 he held a visiting professorship at the University of California, from 1977 to 1979 at the University of Tel Aviv. At the same time he was a member of the board of the Israeli central bank. He was also active in national and international committees for tax and financial law.

In 1979, Neeman briefly in the government service and was until 1981 Director General at the Ministry of Finance and Director of El Al and member of the Central Committee of the World Bank. Subsequently, he was again active in his law firm as a lawyer. Once again, he was from 1989 to 1990 worked as a visiting professor at the New University and in 1990 and 1994 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

On June 18, 1996, he was appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Minister of Justice, without being a member of the Knesset. However, a position he held only until 10 August 1996. On July 9, 1997 Netanyahu appointed him to the then Minister of Finance, after the current incumbent Dan Meridor left the Likud and founded the Centre Party ( Mifleget Hamerkaz ). As finance minister, Neeman was also chairman of the eponymous Neeman Commission.

Since 1990 he has been Chairman of the Board of Bar - Ilan University since 1992 to re-join the board of the Israeli central bank.

Since 31 March 2009 the Minister of Justice Neeman Israel. In October 2010, the Knesset approved its bill, which provides that non-Jews have an oath of loyalty to Israel as a democratic and Jewish state in the naturalization process.
