Dan Meridor

Dan Meridor ( born April 23, 1947 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli politician and Deputy Prime Minister and Likud as a deputy to the 32th Knesset from 6/5/2009 - 3/18/2013 secret cabinet minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Biography

After school he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law. During the Six -Day War in 1967, he was a tank commander. After his military service as a captain in the Armored Corps from 1973 to 1982 he was working as a lawyer in Jerusalem. Later, he was from 1982 to 1984 secretary of the governments of Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir.

His political career began on 13 August 1984 with his election to the Knesset, where he represented the interests of the Likud until 17 February 2003. Most recently, he was a member of the Centre Party ( Mifleget ha - Merkas ) and of Gesher. In the Knesset, he was from August 1984 to November 1988 Chairman of the sub-committees on security issues and safety legislation. Most recently he was from June 1999 to February 2003 Chairman of the Committee on Foreign and Defence questions. Furthermore, he was occasionally observers from the Knesset at the Euro Europe.

On 22 December 1988 he was appointed by Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir as Minister of Justice for the first time into the cabinet and held this office until July 13, 1992. On June 18, 1996 him Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed as Finance Minister, but this took office a year later on June 20, 1997 Netanyahu even for a short time after disagreement over exchange rates. On 29 August 2001, he was finally minister without portfolio in the incumbent by 28 February of 2003 the government of Ariel Sharon. After his election defeat, he also lost his position in the government.

Currently, Meridor International Chairman in 1966 by the then Mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek, founded in Jerusalem Foundation. He is also a senior fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute. Meridor, who joined the Likud again, is also called again as a candidate for the next Knesset elections.
