Rosbach vor der Höhe ( official Rosbach vd Höhe ) is a Hessian town on the edge of the Taunus mountains southwest of Friedberg in the Wetterau.

Geography

Neighboring communities and circles

Rosbach bordered to the north by the town of Friedberg, in the east on the community Wöllstadt, in the south on the town Karben (all in the Wetterau ) and to the west by the cities of Bad Homburg and Friedrichsdorf and the community Wehrheim (all three in Hochtaunuskreis ).

History

Rosbach was first mentioned in the year 884, the originally independent district Rodheim has already been documented in the Lorsch Codex 805.

Archaeological finds date back to the LBK and Celtic times. The name origin is not clear-cut, as the most likely explanation but applies the derivation from the Middle High German word " roezen " or "rozen " ( roast ), which marked a pulping operation in the processing of flax.

In the year 884 top Rosbach went as imperial donation to the monastery of Fulda. Later, the place in the possession of Hesse- Darmstadt, the Count of Nassau, and the Elector and Archbishop of Trier went on. 1663 received city rights in the community. The district Rodheim v.d. Height was about 1600 to 1821 " county seat " of the Office Rodheim.

From 1850 to 1926 Manganerzbergbau was operated in 80 workings. 1901 were connected by the railway Friedberg- Homburg in the German rail network and low -Rosbach Rodheim. 1912, the hitherto common district in Lower and Upper -Rosbach has been disconnected.

The arson attack in Rosbach 1988 by supporters of the Action Directe was reported nationwide.

Incorporations

On 1 December 1970, the until then independent municipality low -Rosbach was incorporated into the city of Ober -Rosbach. The city was officially renamed Upper Rosbach in Rosbach. Economy

In the low -Rosbach district of the traditional business of Rosbacher mineral water source is established, which is one of the Hassia mineral springs since 2001. Also located in the low -Rosbach district of a large, highly visible central warehouse and administration building for the German Rewe supermarket KGaA. Attractions

In the low -Rosbach district is the old water castle. About three kilometers west of the hamlet upper Rosbach is the Roman fort Kapersburg, which is considered one of the best preserved plants of Upper Germanic - Rhaetian Limes. On the occasion of the recognition of the limes as a UNESCO World Heritage site was already around the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries excavated and preserved fort again completely renovated and transformed the entire area into an archaeological park.
