Rubén Limardo

Rubén Dario Limardo Gascón ( born August 3, 1985 in Ciudad Bolívar ) is a Venezuelan fencer and Olympic champion.

Career

Rubén Limardo is four-time medalist at the Pan American Games in 2007 and 2011. At the Pan American Fencing Championships he reached in 2008 in Queretaro silver, 2009, he won in San Salvador, 2011 in Reno ( Nevada) and 2012 in Cancun each again silver.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he was a member of the Venezuelan Degen team that won the sixth place. In the individual competition he was 23, four years later, at the Games in London, he won the first Olympic gold medal for his country since Francisco Rodriguez in 1968 and the first fencing medal for Venezuela at the Olympics at all.

He is a student and trained with the Polish club Piast Gliwice. His younger brother Francisco is challenging also internationally.
