Rüdlingen

Rüdlingen is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

Geography

The Rüdlingen borders with the neighboring community of book mountain ( SH) to the Canton of Zurich and German territory. The two communities form the southern part of the canton and is an exclave of the Canton of Schaffhausen.

History

Presumably, in the 5th century Rüdlingen was founded as Alemannic settlement. The first recorded mention of the town Rüdlingen falls in the year 827 Leuthold of White Castle gave in 1123 the villages Rüdlingen and book Mountain Monastery Rheinau, the tithes from Rüdlingen involved in the following 400 years. 1520 acquired the town of Schaffhausen dominion over Rüdlingen and book mountain and could 1656/1657 gain and the high courts. Until the beginning of the 19th century Rüdlingen and book mountain together formed a community that originated the two political communities Rüdlingen and book from the mountain after the partition of 1839. In the 20th century Rüdlingen developed from a small agricultural town into a residential community with vines.
