Saint-Aubin, Fribourg

Saint- Aubin ( Freiburg Patois Chin t'Obin? / I ) is a municipality in the district Broye the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The former German name St Albin is no longer used today.

Geography

Saint- Aubin is on 471 m above sea level. M., 9 km north-northeast of Payerne (air line). The scattered village extends a scenic location on the gently sloping to the south slope north of Broyeebene, in the north-western Fribourg plateau.

The area of ​​7.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the ridge that separates Lake Neuchatel from the Broyeebene. The southern part of the municipality is the Broyeebene ( approximately 435 m above sea level. M. ) and extends beyond the channelized river of Petite Glane up to the Broye. To the north extends the municipality of ground above the gently sloping hillside of Saint- Aubin to the wide Molassehöhenrücken, where the western boundary in the dale of the Ruisseau des Vaux, in the eastern valley system of Les Friques runs. On the corridor Sur le Mont is at 525 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Saint- Aubin achieved. Population

With 1526 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Saint- Aubin is one of the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 88.9 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 6.1 % and 1.5 % speak Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Saint- Aubin amounted in 1900 to 664 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 650-720 inhabitants. Only since 1960 (650 inhabitants), a rapid population growth was associated with a doubling of the population recorded within 40 years.

Economy

Saint- Aubin was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. At the optimally inclined towards the south slopes there are some small wine-growing regions. In the Broyeebene there is a large market garden.

More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. Since the 1970s, several new companies have settled in Saint- Aubin. In the resort mechanical workshops, carpentry, construction and operations of the distillery are represented today. In Saint- Aubin, the establishment of a large leisure and entertainment center ( Family Land ) is planned. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location also become a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Payerne and Freiburg.

Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed. It lies on the main road from Estavayer -le- Lac to Avenches or Cudrefin. The nearest links to the A1 motorway (Lausanne -Bern ), which opened in 1997, is located about 5 km from the center. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois, which runs from Domdidier as a circuit, Saint- Aubin is connected to the public transport network.

History

The municipality of Saint- Aubin was already settled in Roman times, what could be proven by the discovery of bricks and remains of a sewerage system. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1228 under the name Sanctus Albinus s Willie; the place was already inhabited but probably much earlier. The name goes back to the late Bishop Albin in the year 550 of Tours.

Since the Middle Ages formed Saint- Aubin own little rule, which was under the influence of the Counts of Savoy. After Bern 1536 had conquered the Vaud countryside, the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was converted into an independent bailiwick, which included only just Saint- Aubin and Les Friques. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one of Saint- Aubin during the Helvetic for Avenches District, from 1803 to the district Montagny and from 1830 to the district Dompierre before it was incorporated in 1848 in the District Broye. Effective on January 1, 1991, incorporated the previously independent Les Friques to Saint -Aubin.

Attractions

On the big village square is the Catholic parish church of Saint -Aubin, which is mentioned in the 11th century. Its present form was the church in the new construction at the beginning of the 16th century, the tower was added in 1630. The three-nave structure has a polygonal apse and a partly Gothic interior ( tabernacle, baptismal font ).

Opposite the church is the Castle of Saint- Aubin, which was built in 1631. The massive rectangular building flanked by four square corner towers and a polygonal stair tower. In the center some stately farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
