Saint-Bresson, Haute-Saône

Saint- Bresson is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saint- Bresson is located at an altitude of 425 m above sea level, 11 km northeast of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 40 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme northeast of the department, in the south-western Vosges, in the valley of the Raddon.

The area of ​​26.60 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape criss-crossed by valleys on the western edge of the Vosges. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Raddon, which provides for drainage to Breuchin. The flat alluvial plain is an average of 420 meters and has a maximum width of one kilometer. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes.

The valley of the Raddon is about 150 m deep sunk into the surrounding plateau. The valley sides are divided by the gullies of various short tributaries of Raddon. To the south and south-east, the municipality's area extends to the high plateau which separates the valleys of Raddon and Breuchin and is located at 550 to 600 m. The plateau is a loose structure of forest, grassland, heathland and bogs. In hollows are numerous small lakes which are mostly natural origin and during the ice age caused by glacial striation. Some were also dammed and used for fish farming.

North of the Raddon closes to another plateau, bounded on the north by the valley of the Combeauté. It is partly forested ( Bois Communal and Bambois ), partly consisted of meadow and pasture land. With 710 m in the north- east, in the area of ​​Grand Roncey, reached the highest point of Saint- Bresson. History

Saint- Bresson is first mentioned in 1240 under the name Summus Bresson. In the course of time, the local name evolved over Sim Bresson to Saint- Bresson. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the abbots of the monastery of Luxeuil. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In Saint- Bresson lead and Silbererzminen were exploited from the 15th to the 17th century. In the 19th century the mining of high-grade granite became important. Today Saint- Bresson is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Bresson was rebuilt in the 18th century. In-room amenities include furniture, richly carved pulpit, angels and statues from the 18th century. Also from the 18th century comes the Chapel Saint- Brice (village saint of Saint- Bresson ), which was built in neo-Gothic styles. In the municipality there are numerous stone crosses from the 17th and 18th centuries. Also worth seeing are the wood store, of which the oldest dates back to the year 1660.

Population

With 466 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Saint- Bresson is one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. The peak with respect to the number of inhabitants reached Saint- Bresson already in 1831, with 2431 people. Since then, the population has continuously decreased. Only since 1990 has been slight fluctuations were recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint- Bresson was influenced very early on by the mining industry. Thanks to the extensive municipal area to agriculture ( dairy farming and animal husbandry ), forestry and fish farming have some significance.
