Saint-Jorioz

Saint- Jorioz is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint- Jorioz located on 465 m above sea level. M., 8 km south-southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The village is located west of the Lac d' Annecy on an alluvial plain at the creek Laudon, at the eastern foot of the massif of bauges belonging Semnoz.

History

The lake at Saint- Jorioz been inhabited since the Neolithic period. In Roman times the settlement was located here Macelum. Probably founded in the 9th century a monk named Jore a small priory, which was first mentioned in the 11th century. Therefore, the place of Macelum in Saint- Jeore was renamed, from which developed the modern toponym Saint- Joroz.

Population
