Sallèles-Cabardès

Sallèles- Cabardès is a southern French village with 110 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region.

Location

Sallèles- Cabardès is located in the old cultural landscape of the Cabardès the foot of the Montagne Noire at an altitude of about 270 meters above sea level. inst and about 20 km ( driving distance ) north-east of Carcassonne. The distance to the southern canton capital Conques- sur- Orbiel is just ten kilometers. The catharism Lastours is located approximately six kilometers to the west.

Demographics

In the 19th century it was always between 150 and 300 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture and the consequent loss of jobs, the population has declined significantly in the 20th century.

Economy

The surroundings of the town has for centuries been dominated by agriculture - especially from the winery, which probably had been operated in Cabardès in antiquity. In the late 20th century, tourism has been added in the form of apartment rentals ( gîtes ) as an economic factor.

  • Built in the 18th century Château La Villatade has been converted into a hotel.
  • In the vineyards of the area are walks and hikes (eg after Lastours ) possible.
  • In about a kilometer located outside the village of Grotte du Gazel prehistoric finds from the Stone Age have been found up to the Bronze Age in systematic excavations in the first half of the 20th century. The cave is designated as a monument historique since 1948.
