Salobreña

Salobreña is a Spanish city in the province of Granada.

Geography

The city is situated on a rock above the Costa Tropical, a section of the Costa del Sol in the province of Granada, near the Río Guadalfeo.

Climate

The climate is in accordance with the Coastal Mediterranean ( Csa climate type according to classification by Köppen and Geiger ).

Due to the protective proximity to the Sierra Nevada, the climate in winter is much milder than in the rest of the Costa del Sol. The mean annual temperature is 17 ° C; in the summer average of 24 ° C, reached in winter 12 ° C. The annual rainfall hovers around 500 millimeters.

Economy

The most important economic activity of the area is agriculture, because sufficient melt water is also available in the summer due to the proximity to the Sierra Nevada. Only in second place comes the tourism.

Attractions

Located beneath the lovely Moorish castle village is still typical of old Andalusia. The old town is characterized by narrow streets typical of Andalusia and old fisherman houses. The modern new town below the rock is home to numerous bars and restaurants and the shady Parque de la Fuente.

Salobreña was formerly surrounded by vast fields of sugar cane. These were and are replaced by a number of new hotels and residential complexes, a golf course is to still occur.

History

The fortress, which can be found at the top of the rocks, served for the period of Muslim rule as a summer residence of the Grana -Indian court. After the takeover by the Christian rulers, the fort was used as a prison for the Mulas fixed during the conquest of Granada. The fortress lost its strategic importance over time. Today's restored remnants give only a vague picture of the former Grace contrary, only the view of the flat coastal countryside bounded by the steeply rising slopes of the mountains of the Sierra Nevada justifies the price of admission.
